The debate. Should I support IE 6 or not ? The correct answer will be: It actually depends on your target. For a website that I will code and its target are non-geek, non-internet familiar, no high Internet speed, etc; the answer to “Should I support IE 6″ is yes.
Don’t pay attention to Netscape, IE5.5 or others browsers.
Coding a microwebsite for a bank I received a e-mail regarding that the header was positioned wrong on Iceweasel.
It doesn’t mean we have to offer support for every browser out there.
We know all the reasons why we should drop IE6. IE6 has 17% of the market share. One day IE6 will drop below 10%.
Remember, when the masses look at your website and see a broken or blocked experience – they don’t say “oh look, IE6 is breaking the site again”, they simple say, “oh look, this website is broken”. In the eyes of the masses, websites break not browsers. No message you prompt to them will change this mentality; you will not make a geek out of a non-geek: for most, a browser is simply a tool for the Internet, one not being any different than another.
Ask yourself who are your users; then opt or not for the support of IE6. Don’t rush, don’t jump in not supporting it. Show some respect to users.
